Baby imageWelcoming a new family member is such a special time in your life and what better way to celebrate then with a short holiday, commonly now referred to as a “Babymoon”.  We are regularly working with our members to plan their special  “Babymoon” getaway before the arrival of this amazing new person into their lives.  Our Lifestyle team have prepared a few helpful tips, which they have learnt along the way to share with you when planning your getaway, as well as a few of our special pick locations.

Tip 1: Location
Agree on a destination that appeals to you both so you can relax and enjoy your time together.

Tip 2: Check Flight Restrictions
If you’re flying, check with your doctor and the airline to be sure they’ll let you get on the plane! As a guide most physicians say it’s safe to fly up to 36 weeks, however airlines have varying restrictions, including different policies for domestic and international travel.

Tip 3: Travel Time
Take into consideration that a long car ride may not be a comfortable start to your getaway.  If you decide to drive, agree with your partner on a location that is one to three hours driving.  If you are flying, consider a location that has a direct flight with no layovers.

Tip 4: When to Travel
Feedback from our mothers to be is that the second trimester between 18 – 24 weeks is the most comfortable time to travel. By this time, the morning sickness of the first trimester is hopefully a distant memory and your bump is growing but you shouldn’t be too uncomfortable at this stage of your pregnancy.

Tip 5: Consult you Doctor
Once you have selected your destination and before you book your getaway, speak to your Doctor about your plans if you are travelling to a tropical location, carrying twins / multiples or considered to be having a “high risk” pregnancy.

Tip 6: Vaccinations
If you are planning to travel overseas, check in with your doctor about any necessary vaccines and if you are able to have them during your pregnancy.

Tip 7: Destination Medical Facilities
Check the closest medical facilities near your chosen location (just in case) and keep the contact information and contact number handy for your travel.

Tip 8: Keep Moving
Whether you are flying or driving to your babymoon destination, try to get up and move around every hour or two to aid your circulation, and try not to cross your legs.  Keep your toes elevated to prevent swelling.
